WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION
LADIES' GAME ON SATURDAY. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr. D. D. Weir presiding. Others present •were : Messrs. G. Howe, E. Little, W. Donovan, P. J. Ryan, W. F. Hornig, A. Griffiths, H. Buck, G. Luoni, and Lieutenant T. Christopher. It was reported that the Miramar Borough Council had granted the necessary permission to insfcal water in the fehed at the Polo Ground. After discussion it was decided to leave the matter over for this season. The Oriental Club notified that its Ladies' Committee had secured the services of twenty-two lady football players who were desirous of playing a match, consisting of two five-minute spells, during the interval at the Athletic Park next Saturday. The ladies are to wear jerseys, with " No. 9 " sewn on tho back of each, and short skirts. It "was decided to accept the offer. A lady will act aa referee. The secretary of the New Zealand Union notified that the following resolution was carried at the annual meeting : "That it be a recommendation to the Management Committee U> favourably consider applications from local affiliated Unions for the removal of suspensions imposed upon any player who has signed on for active service." The secretary pointed ont that this did not apply to permanent exclusions or offences, such os professionalism, but merely to suspensions or disqualifications for such breaches of the rules as might reasonably foe regarded as minor offences. The rule is to apply only to those players who have actually signed on for active service. The Berbampord Club wa* granted permission to send a team to PalmerstOn on _ 3rd June to take part in the > seven-s-side tourney. A request from the St. James Club to be allowed to send a team to Christchurch on 3rd June was also granted. Advice was received that Charles Slater, a sixth class PetonS player, had his log fractured last Saturday. He is how in tho Wellington Hospital. The Berhampore Club advised that i ! had been compelled to withdraw its team from the third grade competition owing to members having enlisted. The Oriental Club's fourth grade team was withdrawn for a similar reason. Dr. A. Tolhurst asked for leave of absence to join the Expeditionary Force at Trentham. This was granted. i
