LABOUR'S TRIUMPH IN QUEENSLAND
TO THI EDITOR. Sir,— The cablegrams from Brisbane regarding the triumphal victory of Labour at the State elections— s3 Labourites , as against 19 Liberale-pcomes as a great joy to all Labourites in New Zealand. We feel that it is "the handwriting on. the wall," and points tho way to victory for us here. The Labour elections, both in South Australia and Queensland, have mainly been won by Labour because the people have felt that it /is the only party tha.t they can trust to look after the interests of the people as against the exploiters. The Queensland election was the hardest fought for years, and the ways and tricks of the exploiters were shown up by the Labour Party right throughout the State. The election muot have been very gratifying to Mr. Holman, Labour Premier for New South Wales, because his policy of fixing food prices was questioned in Queensland, and he went to Brisbane, and from the platform explained the benefits obtained both by the producer and the public by_ the Acts of _ his Government in controlling food prices. When the public of New Zealand hoar the true 6ide of things regarding the work of the exploiters in this country, they will rise up in their wrath even as they have done in the Commonwealth, and govern them6elves>. The "mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceeding small," and once the pent-up feelings of the worker are aroused Mr. Massoy will want to go back to his farm and Sir Joseph Ward to his business. It was the last straw that broke the camel's back ; it will be the last pound of butter exported to Melbourne that will break Mr. Massey's. — I am, etc., ONE-AND-SEVENPENCE. 24th May, 1915.
