(By "Sir Lancelot.") The Dannevirke Hunt Club will probably hold its first totalisator meeting in the second week in September, the day following the Dannevirke Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. Mr. Robert Takle will probably have charge of both meetings. Secretaries Wj'nyard (Takapuna), Hayr (Avondale), Mark (Auckland Trotting Club), and Yonge (Pakuranga Hunt Club), intend being present at the Wanganui Meeting. ' The Manawatu Trotting Club will hold its first totalisator meeting on 9th June, the week following the South Waifarapa Meeting. The sum of 430 soys will be given in stakes in seven eventsOn the opening day of the South Australian Jockey Club's Meeting Mr. E. E. D. Clarke's Lesbos (The Welkin— Cleis), ridden by R. Lewis, won the South Australian Stakes from Pretty Bobby and One. There were only three runners in the St. Leger, in wnich the Victorian colts Fidelio and Hayston were defeated by Nomion (Bobadil — Corona). The Adelaide Cup winner. The Westland Trotting Club will hold its first totalisator meeting on 3rd June. The sum of 300 sovg will be given in stakes in six events. Paoli (Merriwee — Nukumaritia) won a Jumpers' Flat Race at the Sandown Park Meeting on the 12th instant. He was ridden by H. Cairns. Canoona (Conqueror. — Berenice) was among the successful runners at the Macquarie Picnic (N.S.W.) Meeting on the. 12th instant. Mi 1 . W, M'Kenzie, secretary of the Manawatu Hunt Club, was in town yesterday. He informed me that the club would hold its first meeting with the totalisator about the third week in July. The 'Newcastle Cup winner, Dnke Alwyne, won the ( Town Plate at the Wallsend Meeting on the 12th instant. The Rangitikei Hunt Club will probably hold its first totalisator meeting early in August, the day following the Marton Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. Secretary Arthur Way will manage both incetinge, ' A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Upper Riccarton, recently, when -Mr. Harry Cutts, elder son of the late Mp. Edward Cutte, was married to Miss Sieightholme. The newlymarried couple have the best wishes of all the trainers- at Riccarton, as well as of many friends in other parts of New Zealand, for their future happiness. The' Pakiaiua Racing Club will probably hold it« meeting on 28th July, and the Woodlands Hunt Club the following day.* Mr. Arnold Weston will again manage the .Woodlands Hunt Club Meeting. Lobelia, dam of El Gallo, the favourite for the Great Northern Hurdles, is said to be by Albert (a full-brother to Leopaid, the Auckland Cup winner) from a mare by Opawa — Arab mare. Albert (Leolinus — Lovebird) was a year younger than Leopold, who came South in the spring as a, three-year-old. ' Manton and Cuirassier beat him in the Hawkes Bay Guineas, but he beat Mr. Butler's colt in the Spring Handicap on the second day. Albert was not. in the same class as his full -brother. He raced at Auckland country meetings and won a hurdle race at-Waipu. The breeding of the dam of Lobelia, by Opawa — Arab mare, corresponds with a mare named Lobelia, that was a. well-known performer in Hawkes Bay. She was owned by Mr. W. Pettitt. Perhaps the two mares named have been mixed up, One is credited with winning a Produce Stake* for two-year-olds, at the Bay of Plenty Meeting, the same season the other (Pettitt's) was racing in the Hawkes Bay district as a five-year-oh!. The latter won at the old Town and Suburban 'meetings at Taradale. The Bay of Plenty winner is probably the <*am of El Gallo. She was owned by Mr. G. W. Vercoe and won three events at a two-days meeting of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club, including the Tauranga Cup. Leading Lady and Moddite, the two New South Wales progeny of Royal Artillery that have raced in the Dominion this season, have paid 'their way. Ths Ashburton Trotting Club gives 1375 soys in stakes at its Winter Meeting, to be held on 10th June. Sir Donald was scratched for the Century Hurdles at 8.30 p.m. yesterday. Mr. J. R. M'Donald. of Levin, who ! died suddenly while out walking at Wanganui on Wednesday night, was one of the best-known owners in the Dominion. He was president of the Horo•whenua Racing Club and a prominent official of the Otaki Maori Racing Club. He was one of the oldest patrons of J. j H. Prosser'e Porirua stable, and bred ! extensively on hie station at Hoatherlea, between Levin and Foxton. Gold Crest was one of the best that carried the deceased gentleman's colours. Others i were Uranus. Taitoki, Titoki, the ! jumpers Warfare. Opal, and Tariki (who i went to England), Tauira. Styx. Waterworks. Gold Crown. Otaab.ua,* Headword, Waimaria, Mam, Goklstreom (who was engaged at- Wanganni), and others.
