NORTHLAND'S PROGRESS

At last year's annual meeting of householders at Northland protest wa-s made against the cramped and inadequate accommodation at the school, aud so effective have been the efforts of the committee that the cause has been removed by the addition of two large classrooms and a headmaster's room. The new portions were officially inspected on Tuesday afternoon, those present being: — The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken (chairman of the Education Board), Messrs. W. 'H. Field, M.P., C. M. Luke, and Wm. Allan (members of the board), Mr. T. R. Fleming (Chief Inspector of Schools), Mr. G. t L. Stewart (secretary to the Education Board), aaod Mr. A. M'Dougall (architect). The School Committee was represented by Messrs. J. Donaldeon (chairman) aid J. Russell. Afternoon tea was provided, after which speeches were made by the Chairman and member* of the board, and Mr. Fleming. Northland was congratulated on the fine addition to th» school and the general improvements, and the teachers and committee were praised for the progress made . during the year. There is , reason to believe from the speeches thai the work of levelling out the grounds and finishing off the school's playing area, will be proceeded with shortly. The new rooms are up to date in every respect, the outstanding features being the ventilation and provieion for light. Concrete is the material used foi % the outer walls.
