OPERATIONS IN THE NORTH. (BT TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, sth March. Slaughtering operations will be resumed at the Southdown works of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company on Tuesday. During next week two whole days and two half-days will be worked. All the men engaged in the slaughtering operations were paid of! when work was suspended on Thursday j they will be taken or> again on Tues day morning and paid off again on Friday. Whole days will be worked on Tuesday and Thursday and half-dayg on Wednesday and Friday. In the four days about 9000 head of stock will b« dealt with, »nd the space in the 'storage relieved by the loading of the Matatua will again be filled. Operations will then have to be suspended until the arrival of the Rotorua 2 which is due at Auckland on 15th March. « PRICE FOR LAMBS. TIMARU, sth March. Asked to-day regarding the meat export trade, the Hon. W. Fraser explained that the Government "buys meat only; skins and fat belong to the seller He expected the Imperial Government would, if necessary, send ships to fetch away the meat. The account dales of a lot of 300 lambs put through the works show that at the Government price for the different grades, with the values of skins, wool, and pelts added at current values and deducting the killing, freezing, and shipping charge of £d per lb, lambs averaging 331b netted an average of 19s lid per head, or 6 4-5 d per lb.
