They were -being supported by a battery of 75millimetre guns, commanded by an enor"mous clean-shaven captain. The captain climbed a, tree and made observations, and the Germans -were .•peedily annihilated. „ The captain was a priest, who, after the battle, celebrated Mass in a ruined barn, preaching a stirring sermon and exhortidg those present to pray for tho German gunnera .who had just been exterminated.
