Departure was taken from the New South Wales port at noon on Friday last, and immediately after clearing the Heads the vessel met a strong south-easterly wind and a considerable sea. As the vessel progressed there were no signs of an improvement in the conditions, and matters were decidedly unpleasant for the passengers. About half way to Wellington the wind changed to the south, and a heavy beam sea was experienced, these conditions prevailing u ntil entering Cook Strait Included in a general cargo of about 626 tons were transhipments ex the following vessels: — Ventura, Nikko Maru, Wyandra, Osterley, Burrumbeet, Moira, Waitemata, and fijsiu. The Ulimaroa &ails at 5 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton, and'returns here on Friday morning, eailiug at 6 p.m. that day for Sydney direct and Hobart BAD WEATHER AT CHATHAMS According to a wireless message from the Chatham Islands, bad weather i 6 being experienced there, and in consequence the steamer Himitangi has been delayed. She is to proceed to Lyttelton with cargo, and afterwards returns to the Cbathams WAIWERA CALLS AT MONTE VIDEO Homeward bound from Wellington, the liner Waiwera called at Monte Video, and continued her voyage on Saturday last. She left Wellington op tho 21st January, for London THE MISSING SCHOONER RIMAC In reference to the telegram received from uhe Bluff last week concerning the non-arrival at that port of the schooner Rimac from Surprise Island, Mr. T. Henderson, who negotiated the charter of the vessel, states that the ship left Reunion, a French colony near Mauritius, in May of last year. The Rimac was therefore due at Surprise Island early in August. As she has not been reported since leaving Reunion, there can be no doubt that she lias been lost on the voyage. The assumption that the vegsel may have been sunk by the Nurnborg is stated to be quite out of the question, as the Rimac was trading under a. neutral flag, and in ballast. She was probably lost before war was declared. It may also be mentioned that her route would not have brought her anywhere near that of the Numbers, which was operating in the North Pacific, The Rimac was a four-mast-ed vessel of 885 tons gross. She was built at Glasgow in'lß92, and was owned by Norwegians, her port ot registry being Lillesand. — Auckland Herald RACHEL COHEN'S REPAIRS The schooner Rachel Cohen has vow been two months on the slip at Carey's Bay, Port Chalmers, for the. purpose of undergoing inspection, etc., by the Marine Department's officials, and, in order to satisfy the latter (Bays the Otago Daily Times) repairs estimated to cost £2300 will have to be effected before the vessel will be put in proper trim. Considering that Mr. Joseph Hatch paid only £1200 or so for her jn Hobart a comparatively short time ago, it is quite evident the Rachel Cohen has not proved a remunerative venture for her present owners. It is probable that this sailing craft will be dismantled and converted into a hulk, as it is quite unlikely that such a heavyoutlay would be justified, considering the fact that she is now 42 years old It was recently reported that Mr. Hatch had disposed of his vessel to an Invercargill syndicate ' OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD In the course of the Otago Harbour Board's annual report for 1914 it is stated that the accounts of the dock department show a deficit of £2530 10s 2d, towards the reduction of which the Union Steam Ship Company is liable for £1000, leaving a net deficit for the year of £1630 10s 2d. The accumulated deficit prior to this was £7380 17s, which, with the net deficit for 1914 (£1530 10s 2d) brought the total to £8911 76 2d. Against this, however, the board paid during 1914 the fcum of £4000 (£2OOO really belongs to 1913), leaving a net deficit at 31st December, 1014, of £4911 7s 2d. This amount •now stands as a charge against the harbour fund. Th« amount received from dock dues during low amounted to £3681 Bs lid, rents from endowments £1301 6s 6d, electric light £600 8s 4d, electric crane and sheerlegs £801 14s, slip dues and other sources £331 17s lOd. To the total ordinary receipts amounting to £6806 12s 7d has to be added the board's con* tribution of £1000. The ordinary expenditure for salaries, wages, repairs, coal, stores, interest, sinking fund, and other charges amounted to £10,293 4s lid. The' actual receipts during the year totalled £94,051 10s 2d, while the total expenditure was £01,667 16a 8d TAKEN BY THE MAKARINI Included In the New ZealanH cargo taken by the Makarinl yesterday for London was the following from Wellington :— 2»68 bales wool, 837 casks tallow. 218 casks pelts, 18,740 carcases mutton, 29.535 carcases lamb, 5701 legs mutton, and 1177 quarters beef PERSONAL Mr. D. Gardner, late of the Paloona, has joined the Monowai ac second officer Mr. L. Devenport, late wireless operator of tho Moana, has been engaged on the Monowai in a similar capacity Mr Barnes, second engineer of the Ulimaroa, having gone ashore in Australia, Mr. Weightou filled the vacancy during the trip from Sydney. Mr. Croekford, second engineer of the Victoria, is to exchange positions with Mr Weightou Included in the passengers for New Zealand by the R.M.S. Medina, which arrived at Melbourne from London yesterday, aro: Messrs Endeuu, Blow, Globe, GerafU, Pitt, Dyson, and Geary, Meedames Campbell and Pitt, Misses Campbell, Endeau, Billington (2), and Walker As she was some days late in gei.ting away from Capetown, en route from London, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Matatua will probably not reacli Auckland until no-morrow or Thursday.
