HURRICANE, TIDAL WAVE, AND EARTHQUAKE TERRIBLE DAMAGE IN AMERICAN SAMOA. (By Telegraph— Press Association-Copyright) (Received 'February 13, 2 p.m.) VANCOUVER, 12th February. A report from San Francisco states that whole villages in' American Samoa have been wiped out by a hurricane, a tidal wave, and an earthquake. Shipping was destroyed. The roofs of houses were carried ten miles by the violence of the hurricane. The soil was torn from the coral rocks, and buried coffins were left exposed. The loss of life was small. [Samoa -consists of nine islands (besides rocks £nd islets), of which the two largest, Savaii and Upolu, were German, but are now British and are occupied by New Zealand forces. These are the most westerly of the group!, and all the rest belong to the United States. The principal islands are Tutuila, of which the chief port is Pago Pago, and the three Manua islands.]
