HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held, in the Council Chambers, Lambton-quay, to-day. Those present were Councillors W. J. Howell (chairman), J. Wakeham, W. Galloway, T. Edmonds, J. W-hiteman, and M. W. Welch. On receipt of the necessary returns, the superintendent of the National Provident Fund agreed to supply details for a superannuation scheme for employees. The State Guaranteed Advances Office wrote agreeing to entertain the council's application for a loan of £750 for the Hutt River Bridge at Akatarawa. An offer by th© Railway Department to supply 500 yards of metal at 4s per yard on trucks, was referred to the inspector of works. Ail application from the Upper Hutt Town Board for a contribution of £200 towards the construction of the Whaka-tiki-road was not entertained. The inspector of works (Mr. J. W. cCudby), in lus usual report, stated that conveniences had been established at Plimmerton and Paekakariki, while pipe culverts had been put in on the Whiteman's Valley-road and two on the Aka-taTawa-road. In regard to protection of the southern approach to the Mungaroa Bridge, wire had been obtained and crates made at a point where the bridge was threatened by the altered course of the river. At a bridge at the eastern end of Park-line new stringers and other timbers had been added. On the Day's Bay-road a dangerous bend had been widened to 21ft. It wae recommended that an improvement be effected in the width to the road at the entrance to the wharf at Day's Bay, at an estimated cost of £20. It was further reported that the road connecting Belmont and Western Hutt through Messrs. Natusch and Cross's property had been completed, and it Was recommended that the dedication be accepted. The overseer recommended that 7^ rhains of Paekakariki Hill-road be widened to a varying width from 2ft to 10ft, at a,n estimated cost, including necessary culverts, of £49 2s 6d. The report was adopted.
