In the Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay cricket match, commenced here , to-day in cold though fine weather, the home team, which batted first, compiled 403 (Board 195, Patterson 48, O'Brien 27, 0. Stevens t 32, Anderson 31). M'Mahon took eight wickets for 72 rune, and Maude and Moore one each. The visitors were disposed of easily for 89 (Gartshore 25, Guthrie 17, and M'Connell 16). Napier took six wickets for 34 nuts, and Dean and O'Brien two wickets each. Play will be resumed to-morrow.
