♦ (BT TELEGRAPH— PRE<S ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCII, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Stewart Russell pleaded guilty to betting in the street. The police stated that defendant had been previously convicted. The Magistrate (Mr. H. W. Bishop) said he supposed bookmakers existed because there was a public demand for them. He inflicted a fine of £30.
