MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. D. G-. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. On a charge of using obscene language in Tory-place on 17fch January, Mary Louisa Clark was remanded for one week. Teresa Russell, through Air. P. W. Jackson, pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging six panes of glass, thereby doing damage to the extent of 245. As the windows have since been replaced, she was merely convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Graham Burns Douglas was fined ss. with costs 7s, for being in the Cricketers Arms Hotel after hours. For assisting to supply a prohibited person with liquor, James Kennedy, who entered a plea of nofc guilty, was fined £1, in default- three days' hard labour. Leonora Parker was convicted for breaking the terms of a prohibition order, and mulcted in a penalty of £1, with Court costs 7s. The alternative was fixed at three days' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE CASES. For disobeying maintenance orders the following were dealt with -.I— Kenneth Blacklea was sentenced to ten days' imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as 2s 6d is paid off arrears (£8 19s 2d) ; Thomas M'Glarry, twelve days' imprisonment unless amount due (£ll 15s) is paid forthwith ; William Hawley, ten days' imprisonment, warrant to be suspended if 2s 6d per week is paid off arrears (£9 16s 2d) and other payments regularly maintained ; James Albert Whisker, three days in gaol unless 6s per week is paid, such being the amount of the order, and 2s off arrears (£2 8s). Bert Wiig was ordered to pay 7s 6d per week towards the maintenance of his illegitimate child, and in addition £5 5s expenses of confinement, and £1 Is solicitor's fee.
