WRECK OF THE ASAMA

CREW LANDS ON MEXICAN SOIL. WASHINGTON, 7th February. It transpires that the Japanese armoured cruiser Asama. struck the rocks on tho Californian coast in a heavy gale. The officers and crew landed on Mexican soil. Pending the arrival of other Japanese warships, it is unlikely that Mexico will intern the shipwrecked men, although entitled to do so. When the officers and men were saved the news was kept secret, in order to preserve United States neutrality. American warships were told off to prevent a possible German attack if the Dresden should be in the neighbourhood.
