WEATHER CONDITIONS

WELCOME FALL OF RAIN. A westerly storm passed to the southi ward of Now Zealand yesterday, and strong north-westerly winds changed last night to southerly. Heavy rain on Saturday night gave place to fine weather durihg the daylight hours of Sunday, which was a moist, calm, threatening day. The calm lasted until about midnight, and then tho wind came up strongly from the south, and some of the gusts were very heavy. Since tho weather changed nearly an inch of rain has fallen, and everywhere it has been welcomed, especially in the northern and east coast districts. In the immediate future southerly winds are likely to prevail, strong to gale, decreasing in parts. A cold night is expected in most places.
