EXTRA EDITION. NEW CHURCH

FOR THE ANGLICANS AT HASTINGS. (BT TELEGRAPH.— PRP.SS ASSOCIATION.) HASTINGS, This Day. Yesterday waa a red-letter day with Anglicans in Hastings, the occasion being tlie consecration of the new portion of St. Matthew's Church by the Bishop of Waiapu, assisted by Bishop Williams and Archdeacon Ruddock. The architecture of the new building is late Gothic. It has been massively constructed in ferro-concrete, at a cost of £7000, and comprises a chancel, morning chapel, organ chamber, large vestries, and a tower 80ft in height. It is built on the site of the old wooden church, the intention being to demolish the latter and erect a new nave, aisles, and transepts as a peace offering at tho end of the present war. The new building is a welcome addition to the architecture of the town, which has been improved lately by the completion of a handsome new banking house for the Union Bank. Tenders are also to be called shortly | for fche erection of two large theatres, bank premises for the National Bank, and a large block of business premises in Heretaunga-streefc.
