LOSS OF THE TOKOMARU
EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY. The Prime Minister has received tho following cablegram from the Premier of South Australia :-— "This Government desires to express its sympathy with the people of New Zealand in the loss of tha Tokomaru with its cargo, portion of which consisted of the Dominion's contribution towards the relief of destitute Belgians, and regrets that the philanthropic efforts ot its citizens have been thwarted by a relentless enemy.— (Signed) Peake, Premier." _ The following reply has been sent: — "Pr'-"nier. Adelaide. — Government and popple of New Zealand heartily thanl; you for kind expression -of sympathy In the loss of the Tokomaru. We need hardly tell you that the loss of half tne Dominion's contributions towards, the relief of the Belgian distressed seems to be felt more keenly here thaai even the loss of the ship and the rest of her cargo. The binVring o{ the Tokomaru will be another Item to remember wTien the settling day comes.— (Signed) W. F. Massev."
