TEPID BATHS
During his tterm of office as Mayor, Mr. D. M'Laren ardently advocated tppid baths for Wellington, and he had. many supporters. However, the movement has never progressed very far, and its supporters will be interested in the success of new tepid baths at Auckland. The official estimate is that no fewer than 30,000 people have patronised the baths since they were opened to the public on 7th December. The following figures indicate the number of bathers during" the last four days of last week : —Wednesday, 1100; Thursday, 1118; Friday, 1123; Saturday, 1191; total for four days, 4532; approximate weekly average, 9000. Theee figures (it is claimed) easily constitute a Dominion record in regard to swimming baths. Youths do not by any means monopolise the baths, there being nearly 500 more adults than children, 16 years and un^ der, in the pools every day. One day C 49 men, 137 women, and 339 children used the baths. T,he takings at the Hobson-Btreet baths have exceeded £12 per day ever since they have been opened, including Saturdays and holidays. The total receipt* to date are well over £400, which is paying the City Council handsomely
