COLD NIGHT PROBABLE
During last night a southerly sprang up and a heavy shower resulted, commencing at 12.10 a.m. and ceasing an hour later. The weather has continued fine since, though threatening at times. The present indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds generally, with a rising barometer; The weather conditions are likely to be cool and changeable, with passing showers in many parts of the country. A cold night is probable generally, but an improvement in the weather is likely to follow for two or three days. A storm area passed in the South yesterday.
With reference to a statement published elsewhere that the steamer Remuera, while on her recent voyage from Capetown to Hobart, touched latitude 50deg. south, was the first boat carrying passengers so far south, a correspondent ("One Who Has Been") writes pointing out that this is incorrect, as boats rounding Cape Horn touch a latitude ' of between 55deg. and 56deg. south. At a special summoned meeting of Pacific I Lodge, U.A.0.D., Bro. ABel, A.D., presided. The half-yearly balancesheet was presented and the secretary was complimented on the very satisfactory report of the auditor (Mr. H. Bolton). P.A. Bro. R. Kennedy was unanimously elected to the office of Arch Druid, and a vote of thanks was passed for services rendered by P.A. Bro. Rubinstein. The installation ceremony was performed by District President Bro. 'Edge, assisted by P.D.P. Bro. Flanagan. One new member was initiated and one was admitted by clearance.
