GERMAN BRAVERY
EQUAL TO THAT OF THE BRITISH KITCHENER'S NEW 'ARMIES. LONDON, 7th January. Speaking in the House of Lords, Lord Curzon declared that the Germans were inspired with a bravery equal to our own. They appeared to be fortified with a hatred against us such as we, with onr more phlegmatic temperament, were incapable of. Lord Kitchener, in reply to questions, said that the six new arnries now being organised included Indian troops, but not the colonials, who are not. yet sufficiently trained. Arrangements are being made to keep np the strength of the depleted Indian units. During- the debate there were strong complaint* against the Government's leniency towards aliens, particularly in the prohibited areas. The Marquis of Crewe (Secretary of •State for India) promised to consider sweeping them out of the prohibited areas. WAR SUPPLIES GERMAN INTRIGUE IN UNITED STATES. ' LONDON, Bth Jannary. The Washington correspondent of 'The Times states that the German propagandists are intriguing to induce Congress to fofrbid the export of war supplies to the Allies and to persuade the Government to purchase interned steamers. Above all they are seeking to create Anglo-American tension over the problems confronting the two nations.
