AT THE ZOO

FEDERAL PREMIER'S VISIT. The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth (Rt. Hon. Andrew Fisher) and Mr. James Boyd, M.P., of Melbourne, paid a visit to the Wellington Zoo this morning, as guests of the City Council. The party included the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors Frost, Hindmarsh, and M'Kenzie, and with them, by special invitation, went the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. H. D. Bell). The main attractions of the Zoo were inspected, and the visitors expressed the highest appreciation of the appearance of the animals and birds and the manner in which they were housed and kept. The aquarium was viewed with much interest, and the young lion, brought down by Mr. Langridge, curator of the Zoo, from the Boyd collection at Onehunga, was much admired. Mr. Fisher declared himself willing to assist in every possible way the development of the Zoo by inducing the authorities in Australia to permit the addition to the Wellington collection of some of the more Btrictly prohibited birds of Australia, such as the lyre bird, the brush turkey, and the cassowary. He felt satisfied that they would receive every attention and caro in the Wellington Zoo.
