OF THE SYDNEY-EMDEN FIGHT TRIBUTE FROM A MAYOR AND CITIZENS. SYDNEY. 21th December. The Mayor of Sydney has cabled to tho Cocos' Island cable staff stating that in grateful remembrance of their tact and bravery on 10th November, tho Mayor, aldermen, and citizens of Sydney eentl Christmas greetings. Tho manager ot the Cocos Island cable station supplies a vivid story elaborat-
ing the details of the Emdon's visit to the island? and tho subsequent fight. Up to the moment the landing party took pofisepfiion. the cable staff continued to despatch calk. When the Emden ran ou to tho reef lo avoid sinking, and had only one gun left in action, the captain refused to haul down the flag, and the Sydney wa,s compelled regretfully to continue firing. After the third salvo a man went aloft and struck the colours.
