DEMONSTRATIONS IN ITALY
ANTI-AUSTRIAN AND PRO-WAR FEELING (Received December 22, 8.20 a.m.) EOME, 21st December. Five hundred meetings were held throughout Italy, commemorating the death of Oberdank, who was executed in 1882 for conspiracy against Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria. The demonstrations developed anti-Austrian and pro-war feeling in the northern cities. The police were obliged to curb the celebrations. ITALY'S POLICY HAS THE APPROVAL OF HER ALLIES AMSTERDAM, 21st December. The Hamburger Nachrichten, commenting on Prince Buelow's arrival at Rome as German Ambassador, says Italy's policy of neutrality has the approval of her allies. Senor Salandra is thus doing all that Germany expects.
