RIFLE SHOOTING
SATURDAY'S MATCHES THE KARORI CLUB. The Karori Rifle Club had a muster of sixty members at Trentham on Saturday afternoon, when the second match of the first series was fired over ranges of 800 and 900 yards. The weather was on good behaviour for Trentham— and scoring was rather better than on any previous Saturday this season. The old members had a regular field day, eleven of them being at the top of the list, headed by Major H. Marshall and Rflm. R. Randell, with 64 e^ach. The two ammunition prizes presented by Rflm. F W. Ching for =*the best score" "off the gun" at 900 yards (one for scratch men and the other confined to members who have joined the club this season) were won by Major H. Marshall and Rflm. E. Smith, with scores of 34__and 25 respectively. The Wellington Tneeting, on Ist and 2nd January, will now be the "Mecca" for club members. The conditions were : Seven shots at 800 yds and ten shots at 900 yds. The highest score in A Class was made by C. B. Jenkins, his total being 79. In B Class F. E. OLD NAVALS v. HIGHLAND CLUE. The annual match between the Old Navals and Highland Rifle Club was fired on Saturday afternoon under favourable conditions. The A team of the Highlanders won by 40 points, and the B team lost by 28 points. Full scores "were made by Rifleman C. Hugo and Rifleman J. Pitt, both of whom are young shots, and deserve credit for their performances. The possible was also made by Rifleman A. Ballitiger, who was shooting as a visitor. Owing to unforeseen circumstances the long-distance shoot which was to have been held on Saturday at Trentham by the Defence Staff Club did not take place, and the club instead fired two series at 800 yards, to complete the match for Messrs.
