Wellington has fortunately not shared in the bad weather that has prevailed generally during the past 24 hours. Very squally conditions with heavy showers have been experienced in most parts of the country. Hail and sleet showers have been frequent in the South Island, and snow has fallen on the high levels. Heavy south-westerly winds have predominated and gales have been reported at various, places throughout the Dominion. ' According to the reports made at 9 o'clock this morning they were still in evidence. The forecast is for strong and squally southerly winds, with cold and changeable weather. Scattered^ showers may be expected, -and a cold night generally.
