FOR VALOUR
VICTORIA CROSSES AWARDED. SOME GALLANT DEEDS. (Received December 11, 8.30 a.tn.) LONDON, 10th December Drummer Bent, of the East Lancashires, was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry at Legheer on the night of Ist November. When the officer in charge of a platoon, the sergeant, and section commander were killed, he took command, with great presence of mind, and succeeded in holding the position. Bent had previously brought up ammunition under heavy* shell and rifle fire, and later rescued several wounded men from an exposed position. i Lance-Corporal Dobson, of the Coldstream Guards; won the Victoria Cross by twice rescuing wounded under heavy fire ob the Aiette.
