WELLINGTON SUBURBS

MR. WRIGHT POLLS WELL. R. A. Wright (R.) " 3176 F. T. Moore (Lab.) 2195 J. E. Fitzgerald (L,) ... ... 909 Majority 981 The first return to hand from this scattered, far-flung electorate was received from Worser Bay at 7.6 p.m., and came to hand at the Evening Post Office three minutes later Fort Dorset soon followed. Then the returns came in thick and fast until about 8.30, when they slackened down and Plimmerton (which had long since finished its count) came leisurely in at the end. There were some forty-two polling places to account for, although the heaviest counts (among the first to hand) were from places where people whose occupations are in the city reside. The highest polling was at Berhampore — the headquarters. Mr. J. W. Salmon, the returning officer, had evidently laid hi* plans well, as the promptitude of the receipt of the numbers as they came to hand testified. He was assisted by a capable staff. So far as could be ascertained ' there was no difficulty ' at any of the polling places in\ the Suburbs election in the' way of electors recording their votes. The following is the detailed voting :—: — 3

There are 147 absent Expeditionary Force votes and two seamen's votes to come. The results of the 1911 election were as follow : — First Second Ballot Ballot. W. H. D. Bell (R.) ... 2431 3060 F. T. Moore (Lab.) ... 1273 2661 J. E. Fitzgerald (L.) ... 1214 J. P. Luke (Ind.) . . W32
