LONDON WOOL SALES

PLENTY OF AMERICAN ORDERS, 1 'Br Telegraplu^Presa Association.— Cop^rightJl (Received December 9, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Bth December. The firms of Jacomb and Sons an<s Ronald Buxton and Company report that 9538 bales were offered at the wool sales and there was an excellent attend* ance. Except a few New Zealand slipeS and scoured wools, for which there was animated competition at late rates, tfe> catalogues consisted entirely of merino*, for which competition was very weak. There are plehty of American orders on the market, but they cannot be executed because of insufficient information with regard to the guarantees required. Sir George Reid, the Australian HigK Commissioner, circulated an announce' ment that any reasonable guarantees would be accepted, but this is not considered sufficiently definite to justify operations. Some traders declare that the best solution of the difficulty would be for the Government to declare wool contraband of war. Shafty combing declined by tori £>a» cent., and short faulty parcels by, from fifteen lo twenty-five per cent.
