SHOT IN THEIR SLEEP
FRENCH SOLDIERS IN A CHURCH. LONDON, 7th December. Details of the bombardment of La-m-pevnisse show that 500 French soldiers were sleeping in a church, when a. spy hidden in the belfry signalled to the Germans by means of a- lamp, and the Germans opened a violent bombardment. The first volley killed a dozen sleeping Frenchmen, and the church was soon m ruins and few escaped unwounded.
