ANOTHER EXPOSURE
A PROHIBITION DECEPTION. A MISLEADING CIRCULAR. (By New Zealander.) 'A circular issued by Prohibitionists was left at my door this morning. It contains many' unsupported statements, numerous inaccuracies, and the exposure of . one, statement will show tho "reckless, and untrustworthy" character of such circulars as a, -whole, to use Mr. Philip Snowden's phrase. It is 3tated by the Prohibitionists that, there was no sly grog-selling in Aiickland in November last during the strike. I enclose a copy of a telegram from Auckland, which appeared in The Post on 20th November. It is hs follows : — RAID ON GREENGROCER'S SHOP. SLY GROG-SELLING. (IT TKLSGRAPH PREBS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, 19th November. Acting upon a. search warrant, Sergeant Rutledge and Sergeant Rock raided a greengrocer's shop in Alexanderstreet to-night and seized a quantity of gin and whisky. Tho names of the pro^ prietors (husband and wife) and those* of three mep and a woman wore taken with a view, to prosecution. The liquor seized was secreted in various parts of the; shop and adjoining rooms, andi drinking was going on when the police entered the place. The Prolribitiometa in Auckland clamoured for the closing of the- hotels during the strike time in November last year, and this is a sample of what took place daring that exciting period. A leading Prohibitionist of Auckland, Mr. William Richardson, wrote to the Dominion, subi sequentJy and pointed out that while the strike was on, and the hotels were* closed, the greengrocers of Anpkja.nd did; a roaring trade— *ao the police discovered. — Published by ArTaug«ment.
