EDUCATION BOARD
♦ — The Education Board met this afternoon, when there were present : Hon. J. G. W. Aitken (chairman), Messrs. T. Moss, C. M. Luke, W. Kebbell, H. Freeman, and W. Allan. The financial statement showed a debit balance of £1606, but this was accounted for by the fact that the meeting was being held early in the month. Advice being received from the Department that a grant of £900 had been authorised for two additional rooms at Island Bay, it was decided that the work be proceeded with. It was reported that Mr. H. G. Hill had presented 100 copies of a map of New Zealand, showing 'tlie condition of the dairy industry. In reply to a request from Worser Bay for reconsideration of the request for a side school at Seaioan, it was decided that the inspector's report, recommending that the application be not granted in the meantime, be adopted. On the recommendation of the Works and Finance Committee the following authorisations were agreed to : Kilbirnie, asphalting, £10 subsidy ; Karori, subsidy up to £20 for asphalting and repairs ; Britomart-street, £19 17s 6d for retaining wall. It was further agreed that the proposal of the inspector for additional accommodation at Pongaroa be approved ; that application be made for a grant for residence at Carrington ; that minor repairs be attended to in Kelbum Infante' School.
