SECOND REINFORCEMENTS
CHRISTMAS DINNER IN CAM?. TO BE GIVEN*~NEXT SUNDAY. PUBLIC GIFTS INVITED. Yesterday, being Sunday, was a quiet day at the Trentnam camp. The early morning was spent in physical drill and general fatigues, and at 10 o'clock church parades of all denominations were held at the usual places. Kit inspection followed, and in the afternoon the camp was thrown open for visitors, a fair number going out from towh. To-day the men settled down to another, week's arduous training, and entered upon more advanced work. A number of leading citizens and the members of the Lady Liverpool Fund Committee have decided to give the 2nd Reinforcements their Christmas dinner in camp before they leave New ' Zealand. Major Potter the Camp Commandant, having intimated that Saturday next will be the most suitable day, ' it has been decided to give the dihner to the men on that date accordingly. The promoters'are now issuing an appeal to the country people to supply the necessary poultry, meat, and fresh vegetables, and to the townspeople for Christmas puddings, fruit (fresh and dried), and sweets, and anythmg else that will help to supply the men with a Christmas dinner such as they will have very pleasant recollections of while they are at the front. The men, it is urged/deserve well, and the people of Wellington City and district should make a special effort to see that they are properly catered for. Donors of all goods, town and country, should send them to the Town Hall, Wellington, where they will be duly dealt with. Soft goods, however, should not arrive later than Friday morning, as they will require to be sent out to Trentham by Friday night. Arrangements are being made whereby the men having all the conveniences available will cook their dinners in camp. If the day is fine it is hoped to have long rows of tables erected so that 'all the men will be able to sit down together in one great big. happy party. If it is wet the dinner will be served in the picture theatre and the two large marquees run in the camp by the Church of England and the Salvation Army. A big Church parade will be held in the camp on Sunday morning next, and the 'public are invited to be present. An appeal is also made to the people of New Zealand for the supply of luxuries for the men in camp and while on the voyage home. These should be forwarded to Major Potter, the Camp Commandant, who will se e that they are dealt with as requested. ' i
