REARRANGEMENT OF MANAGEMENT MR. ,W. H. MORTON APPOINTED GENERAL MANAGER. Since th© death of Mr. Stuart Richard- ! son, the late City Electrical Engineer, a rearrangement of the duties of the principal officers in the City Tramway and Electric Lighting Departments has been contemplated by the City Council, and at last night's meeting assumed definite shape and received the sanction of the governing body of representatives. Tho matter had been discussed at Monday's special meeting, over a report and recommendation of the Tramway Committee, and was- adjourned for further consideration. After an hour's discussion in committee last night the report was adopted. The effect is that Mr. W. H. Morton, City Engineer 1 and chairman of the Tramway Board of Management, is appointed General Manager of the city tramway and electrical undertakings. Mr. M. Cable, the present As-sistant-Tramway Engineer and Traffic Superintendent, becomes Assistant-Tram, way Manager and Electrical Engineer; Mr. George Lauchlan, the present Bfectrie Lighting Superintendent, becomes Assistant-Manager and Lighting Engineer in the Electric Light Department; and Mr. Duncan M'Gillivray, tramway inspector, becomes Tramway Traffic Manager. Mr. Lauchl*n's salary is raised to £550 per annub, and Mr. M'Gillivray's to £350. The Tramway Board is to be dissolved on 31st December and the new regime will begin on Ist January, 1915. Consequent on the alterations, which will place additional responsibilities on the City Engineer, the council resolved that Mr. Morton should ] be instructed to rearrange the work in his own department by creating two subdivisions : — (a) Water supply and sewerage, and (b) street works and general. With the officers in charge of those departments Mr. Morton is to draw up a report on the management thereof, with the object of relieving himself of detail as much as possible. His proposals are to be submitted to the next meeting of the Finance Committee.
