LODGE MEETINGS
The weekly meeting of the Star of Wellington Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held in St. Peter's Mission Hall, Taranaki-street. Bio. R. H. Rigarlsford, C.T., presided The lodge was open to visitors, of whom there were a large number present. Bros. Ingram and Burton were responsible for the programme, which took the form of a "Mock Election." There were four candidates for the Karori seat— Bros. Howitt (Social Democrat.),, Rigarlsford (Reform), Burton (Liberal), and Ingram (Independent). The various speeches and policies caused great amusement, and a very pleasant evening was spent. At next meeting a temperance rally will be held. The quarterly summoned meeting of the Island Bay' Lodge, Xo. 57. U.A.0.D., was held on Thursday evening in* Si. Hilda's Schoolroom, Arch Druid Bro. F G. Eyres presiding. A good number of members and visitors were present, including R.A.D. Bro. Johnston, J.P.R.A.D. Bro. Mullins, P.R.A.D. Bro. Hargreaves, and'R.A.S. Bro. Crombie, who attended for the purpose of judging the gavel competition in connection with lUand Bay and Melrosc lodges. An official visit was also paid by the Pride of Brooklyn Lodge. >A letter was received from the Royal Arch Chapter, informing tho lodge that it had won the R.A.C. shield for the best ritifal performance. Nomination of officers for the ensuing year resulted asj, follows: — J.P.A., Bro. Eyres; A.D., Bro Durrant ; Vice-Arch, Bros. , Clayton f Hart, and Fisher; secretary, Bro. T. Mollison ; treasurer, Bro. Beu ; 1.G.. Bros. Clayton and Stone ; 0.G., Bro. Boniface ;' A.D. Bards, Bros. Stone, Fisher, and Ross ; V.A.' Bards, Bros. Stone, Roes, and Hart ; Grand Lodge representative, Bvo. T. Mollison; District President, Past Ais;h Bro. S. L. Hall, Me'lrose Lodge. After the business had been disposed of and the lodge closed, a social evening was held. ' '
The terms of the settlement of the libel action New Zealand Times versus The Dominion were that The Dominion published a statement' expressing regret at the differences which led to the action. The statement continued :—": — " Wo recognise that tho attitude of the two juries which have already heard this case shows that our article complained of is, ir the opinion of many, open to an interpretation injurious to the reputation of the New Zealand Times. The Dominion desires to emphasise the fact that whatever words were used in the article" complained of it was not intended to impute to the New Zealand Times any bad faith or any intention of favouring anarchism. To the extent to which our article conveys that impression, we desire to express regret, and as an earnest of our sincerity in expressing this regret we have agreed to pay the sum of £100 v as costs to the New Zealand Times."' ?
