The Herald, describing the Victoria Derby, says :— Woorak, sent to the front early, made a solid pace from Mountain Knight and Traquette. At the river stretch Carlita moved up eixth. At the abattoirs Woorak was still leading; Mountain Knight, showing signals of distress, lost his place. At the (sheds the pace was beginning to tell on, Woorak. Entering the home stretch Carlita cut down, Woorak, with Giru, Traquette, and Aristaeus m hot pursuit. Carlita answered the final question, in grand style. Mountain Knight was tenth. The surprise of the race Was the position gained by Aristaeu». No excuse was made for tho failure of Woorak, who was allowed to sasl along in front as long as he was able. Mountain Knight was played out at the end of a mile. The Telegraph describes the result as the surprise of the season. Woorak was in front leaving the straight, going at a racing pace with six lengths lead. At nine furlongs Mountain Knight was next, the others tailed off m great etyle. Woorak began to come back to the field at the six furlongs. Carlita headed the leader two furlongs from home, a shout announcing that Woorak had shot his bolt. So had Mountain Knight. Carlita won easily. ' Atistaeus worried Giru out of second place by three-quarters of &, length. Traquette, Woorak, and Indiscretion wer& next, locked together.
