PARLIAMENT TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL THE CLOSING RUSH. The Legislative Council resumed at 11 ; o'clock to-day. The House of Representatives notified that it had agreed to the amendments made by the Legislative Council to the Pensions Amendment Act, the Inspection of Machinery Amendment Act, and the New Zealand Loans Amendment Act. A further message was received from the House stating that it had passed tho Iron and Steel Industry Amendment Act and asking the concurrence of the Council. The Bill was read a first time. The Hon. H. D. Bell stated that copies of the Bill had not yet been circulated, and he suggested that Hie Speaker resume the chair at 3 p.m. to enable the Councillors to peruse the measure. A Councillor : Can we mend it? Another Councillor : Can we end it? Still another Councillor : That's better. The House of Representatives reported that it had agreed to a conference in regard to the Legislative Council Amendment Act. The Council rose at 11.8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
