EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held thSs afternoon, those present being the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken (chairman), Messrs. J. Kebbell, A. W. Hogg, H. Freeman, W. ' Grants were authorised for the following works : — South Wellington : sand shed, subsidy £ for £, asphalting, extension and alteration, infants' conveniences j Mount Cook Boys: Improved lighting three rooms, asphalting front ground; Kaiparoro : repairs to shelter shed ;' Clyde-quay, renewing corridor floors ; Petone West : roof, sashes, etc. (painting) ; Taita : roof painting ; Kaitawa : new range for residence ; Worser Bay : earthwork ; Korora : reerection of outbuilding destroyed by fire; Greytown : Papawai residence (interior painting) ; Bideford : residence (papering and painting) ; Parkvale : drainage, papering, repairs, etc. ; Belvedere : fencing ; Porirua : fencing (school and residence) ; Petone :^ repairs to walls of cookery room ; office : portfolios for plans, fireproof room (Distemper interior white). A circular was received from the Board of Agriculture suggesting that instruction be given in schools regarding 1 the points of horses and other stock through demonstration by competent judges. The letter was referred to the inspectors for report. The Christchnrch Education Board, wrote suggesting that a united protest be made against the practice of granting only half cost of school sites required. It was decided to support the protest. The Chairman reported that" the Wellington district schools had contributed £210 towards the ambulance fund and £2000 altogether to the war fund. (Proceeding.)
