HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT The Department of Agriculture, In.dustries, and Commerce has received the' following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, 24th October, 1914. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot.) : — Mutton. — The market is dull, but prices arc firm as a result of small arrivals. Canterbury, 6d per 1b for light weight; North Island, 5 13-16 d. Lamb. — The market is quiet, with no alterations in prices. Canterbury two's, 6 13-16 d per lb; other than Canterbury, 6£d for light weight. Beef.— The market is quiet. Stocks of New Zealand .beef on hand are light. Quotations are nominal. New Zealand hinds, 6Jd per lb ; fores, s§d. Chilled supplies are increasing. Chilled hinds, s|d per lb ; fores, s£d. Butter.— The market is firm for high grade. Danish, slow, per cwt., 140s to 1425; Siberian, quiet, 120s to 1225, exceptionally, 1245; Australian, steady, 124s to 128s; Irish creamery, very slow, 126s to 130s, exceptionally, 132s j Argentine, steady, 126s to 130s. Cheese. — The market is quiet, but steady. Canadian, quiet, white and coloured, per c\yt., 76s to 775; English, fair request, 82s to 86s. Hemp. — The market is overstocked and depressed. It is reported there are 100,000 bales of Manila and 1500 tons of New Zealand hemp on hand. New Zealand good-fair grade, per ton, , £22 10s; fair, £21; fair current Manila, £24. Wheat.— The market is quiet, but steady. Australian, 44s c.i.f. Oats.' — The market is firm, but demand only moderate. New Zealand supply is practically exhausted. Wool. — The market is firm and prices continue to advance in anticipation that supplies will be short.
