PRICE OF BUTTER

<*. . THE LONG DRY SPELL. (II lEISORAPU— SPECIAL Vo TOT POIT.) AUCKLAND This Day. The wholesale price of factory butter in Auckland stilJ remains at 12^d per pound, to which figure it was reduced on 21st September, the retail price being Is 2d. The conditions of the market indicate that an increase in price may be made very shortly. Though, the first shipments of this season's butter have not yet reached London the market has become perceptibly firmer. The production of butter has been seriously curtailed by the long spell-" of dry weather, and although the pastures would quickly recover if good rains .fall soon the reduction in the estimated output has become a considerable factor among the influences controlling the market. When the price is advanced, as it may be in a few days, the increase will be probably only per lb, but the retail price will probably be raised to Is 3d per lb.
