PERSONAL. Captain R. Crawford, of the Marama, now in port, has associated with him the following ofOcers:— Chief. Mr A H. Winsloe; second, Mr 3. McCulloch; third, Mr L. A. White: fourth, Mr Cf. W, Evans; chief engineer, Mr R. A. Wood; second, Mi- J. Anderson ; third. Mr Fluckey ; purser, Mr L, A. Ward ; chief steward, Mr Harry White. Mr. A. Wishart, fourth engineer of tho Ulimaroa, came ashore at Wellington yesterday. FOJTON BAG. 'Among the many coastal ports which have experienced inconvenience through bad weather during the past week is Foxton. The condition of the bar at this port has been very bad of late, and several vessels have been considerably delayed. The Queen of the South, which has been detained inside since the beginning of the week, got away for Wellington this morning. To continue Homeward loading the New Zealand Shipping Company's ste.iiner liuahine sailed from Napier late last nigho for Auckland. From the hftter port she returns to Wellington in about a week's time to complete loading. As a result of encountering a gale on the Australian coast recently the Ennerdale, now at Auckland, suffered considerable damage to her iron works, steam pipes, steam pipe cuoing, brackets, and ventilators. i It is understood by the Sydney Shipping List that it is the intention of the Federal Government to initiate its steamer ownership scheme j by establishing a service between Tasmania and the mainland. The hope is expressed that there will be a considerable caving of money ascompared with the payment uoa msidc in the way of v subsidy, and that cheaper rates of freight and passenger fares will result. The Sydney district of the Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers has decided to donate £400 to the Chamber of Commerce food fund and .£IOO to the Belgian fund. Although the Wairau was able to get through the new channel on the Wairau bar this trip much care had to be taken in navigating the vessel. There is by no means sufficient, water on the bar yet. and ap a result the Wairau Gcraped the bottom of the cut with her keel. The first load of this season's wool from Porangahau is at present being taken aboard the Awnhou, which arrived at Blackball from Gisborne yesterday. The vessel is due at Wellington to-morrow night, and after discharge will blow doiv'n her boiler for cleaning. The Kittawa, which was successful in her search for . the Kini, is to eail to-day for Greymoutli. To undergo overhaul on the Wellington Patent Slip the Regulus is due here on Saturday from Onehunga. The » hereabouts of the Austrian steamer j Jozsef Ago^t Foherczeg, owned by the same owners as the Turul (now at Sydney) and the Orsova (now in the neutral waters of Padang) has beeu revealed. Private messages received in Sydney state that she reached Colombo as far back as 12th August. The Jozsef Agost Foherczeg left Sydney on the 27th June, and Brisbane on 2nd July, subsequent^ calling at Adelaide, from which port she sailed on the 12th July. Advices have also been received stating that the steamer Essen, of the German-Australian Lino, laden with concentrates, arrived at Delagoa Bay on the 23rd August from Port Pirie. The vessel was bound for Antwerp, calling at Durban, but having intercepted v wireless message announcing the declaration of war she made a straight course for Delagoa Bay.
