A fireman on the Ulimaroa named Martin Belharrie was admitted to the Wellington Hospital yesterday with a shot wound in his left hip, said to have been sustained during a scuffle with another man on board that vessel. The bullet has not yet been extracted. Mr. George Joachim, of the WestpOrt Coal Company, left Wellington last mght on return to his headquarters in Dune* din. Mr. J. W. Harding, of Hawkes Bay, who went to Europe some months ago, returned by the Maitai, which arrived in Wellington last night. ' Mr. H. A. Chapman, a son of hi* Honour Mr. Justice Chapman, who was recently appointed a house surgeon at tho London Hospital, has joined the R.A.M.C. and left for the front. The death is announced of Mr. Edward Richardson (second son of Mr Rev .beat Richardseln, of South Dunedin), who fell a victim to fever while engaged in mission work in British East Africa. The Hon. J. A. Millar, M.P., has been granted seven days' leave of ab« sence from the- House of ltepreeentativcs on account of illness. For tho (same reason, Mr. L. M. Isitt was granted four day« leave of absence. News has been received m Wellington which leads to the belief that Mr. Horace Huht, formerly organist and choirmaster at the Terrace Congreg&t.kmftl Church, who went to Germany to com» plete his musical studies, is being detained in Berlin by the military authorities there.
