MAGISTRATES COURT
The usual batch of minor criminal cases was dealt with at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided. Accused was committed to Roto Roa Island for two years. John Smith, alias Walsh, alias Brown, an elderly man, was convicted for drunkenness and for committing an indecent act in a public place. He was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment for drunkenness, and £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment for the indecency. Robert Warner pleaded guilty to having been drunk and to having used obscene language when arrested. It was his first offence, and he was convicted and discharged for drunkenness and fined £2 or seven days' imprisonment on the other charge. Andrew Munro, who had been on remand for a week, undergoing medical treatment, was charged with having been found helplessly d*unk. He was convicted and ordered to pay 17s 6d medical expenses, or spend seven days in prison. William O'ObnneJl was convicted on a charge of indecency, and was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment.
