DOUGLAS RETAINS OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP DUNCAN HEADING THE AMATEURS. (IT TBLIQRAFB— MIESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, 13th October. The New Zealand Golf Championship Meeting was continued at Middlemore to-day in fine, but windy, weather. The greens were very fast and upset the form of most of the players. Features of the day were Duncan's fine form of the morning, and his failure in the afternoon when the Open Championship seemed within his grasp. Clements' s failure in the morning lost him a chance. Champion E. S. Douglas retained the title. The first and second qualifying rounds of the Amateur' Championship and the O'Rorke Inter-club Challenge Vase were also played. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Complete scores for the Open Championship are as follow, the conditions stipulating best of four rounds of medal : —

O'RORKE CHALLENGE VASE. The inter-club match for the O'Rorke Challenge Vase resulted : — Auckland A, 356 j Wellington, 356; Wanganui, 357; | Auckland B, 358 ; Auckland D, 358 ; Cambridge, 362; Auckland C, 365 -, Maungakiekie, 366. The tie between Wellington and Auckland will probably be played en Friday. A reference to the figures of last year's Open Championship, played at Dunedin, is rather interesting. Douglas then won the championship with a total score of 305, his cards for the four rounds being 77, 71, 79, and 78; A. D. S. Duncan, with scores of 83, 78, 76, and 77, took 314 ; whilst the figures of B. B. Wood (present holder of the Amateur Championship) were 88, 84, 77, and 82, a total of 331.
