WORLD'S MERCHANT TONNAGE. A statistical abstract for foreign countries in each year from 1001 to 1912 was issued as a Blue Book in England a month ago, the contents of which are interesting in view of tbe war situation. From tlias it appears that Ruibia. at the end of IDII (the latest date to which the calculation has been completed) had merchant vessels, bailing aud steam, of a tota{ net tonnage of 742,802; Finland, 303,403; Norway, 1,046.030; Sweden, 765,068; Denmark, 533,863; Germany, 3,023,725; Netherlands. 503,--613; Belgium, 106.420; France, 1,4C2,63»; Spain, 704,406; Italy, 1.107,085; Austrra, 421,677; Hungary, 134.0i0; Greece, 494,-lea ; China,. }05,818 i Japan, 1,838,054; and the United, States, 7.638,--790. LAST MONTH'S RECORD. The aggregate tonnage (gross) of vessels (69 in number) handled by the harbourmaster and fetaif at the port during the month of September was estimated at 419,150 tons. This probably constitutes a Dominiou record few the handling of vessels in any one month. Other details of recent busy times on the Wellington waterfront appeared in yesterday's Post. The Monowai did not reach Wellington from Lyttelton until 10.30 a.m. to-day, the lengthy trip being due to the strong northerly which the vessel had to beat against. From New York, via Australian ports, the A. ami A. Line's chartered steamer Indraleuia arrived at Auckland yesterday. She is expected to reach Wellington on Friday or Saturday next. The schooner Huia, which left Napier yesterday for Wellington, has 20 tons of explo-s-Wes,'transhipped "at Auckland, for this port. Information has been received to tbe effect that tho C and D. Line's steamer Makarini arrived at Liverpool on the 28th, September from Australian ports. The vessel completed the voyage from Melbourne to the Home port i in 39 days. !
