THE A.J.C. MEETING (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received October 5, 8.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The weather is fine for the races. The attendance -.on Saturday was 46,000. The Daily Telegraph, commenting on the Derby, says that Mountain Knight proved a thoroughly good colt, and is likely to afford a further proof before the season > advances far, but considers Woorak's jockey made insufficient use' of him. The Herald says the race was run at a clipping pace all the way. The time was only 2|sec behind the record established by Noctuiform in 1905. AUCKLAND TROTTING HANDI. A correspondent of the Australasian writes that. Richard Mason was looking rather glum after the Novice Handicap, for the best horse in his small team, Bimeter, was not equal to winning even this minor event. How Mason must wish he had another Noctuiform, Boaiform, or Cruciform to tackle the opposition with next month ! But the one-time trainer of Lochiel did not come to Syd' riey this year with great expectations. The principal object of his making the trip was to escape the rigorous New Zealand winter. Mason finds he cannot stand the cold as well as he could in the past. He is returning to New Zea» land after -the A.'J.C. Meeting, to superintend the training of one or two that are probably of better class than Bime* ter. However, Bimeter— a smartish Maltster eolt>— is likely to be returned a winner in the near futnre. This was his first race, and an uncommonly smart novice in Speedfast beat him, in fast time. The victory of Speedfast, n sturdily-built, good-looking four-year-old, by Waukenphast (imp.), was fully anti« cipated by his party, who also fancy him a bit for the Epsom Handicap, for which he will have to carry only 6.7.
