MEN HARD AT WORK BIG PROGRAMME AHEAD SATURDAY AFTERNOON SPELL. SPORTS MEETING ARRANGED. The whole of the Wellington, Canter* bury, and Otago sections of the Expeditionary Force have now got settled, down to shore conditions once more, and are hard at work. This morning, the Otago Infantry Battalion proceeded by train to Treht* ham for musketry and company gaming, while the Canterbury and Welling, ton Battalions marched out to Newtown. Park and Miramax respectively, fot a whole day's drill. The Canterbury Battalion this morning was engaged In platoon and physical drill, visual ttata. ing, and musketry instruction, and in the afternoon was put through a course of extended order work, semaphore and close order drill. The Wellington In* faiitry Battalion spent the morning it? marching and in judging distance, and from 1 to 3 p.m. was employed in musketry and skirmishing The programme of training for the infantry battalions for the remainder of the week has been fixed as follows '.-*- Canterbury Battalion. — To-morrow (Thursday) : Company training at Karon Park. Friday : Musketry, field training,' close order drill, and physical drill, at Trentham. Saturday : Company training at Miramar. Otago Battalion.— -To-morrow (Thursday) : Company training at Miramar. Friday : Company training at Miramar. Saturday : Musketry, at Trentham. Wellington Battalion. — Tomorrow (Thursday) : Judging distance and train* ing in musketry, at Trentham. Friday : Skirmishing and company attack)' at Karori Park. Saturday: Musketry; squad drill, semaphore and rifle exercise,' on the King's Wharf, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. washing clothes, ailing bedding, and bathing parade. The oattalion which goes to Trentham each day leaves Lambton station at 8.30 a.m., arriving at Trentham at 9.26 a.m., and returns, leaving Trentham at 4.40 p.m. and arriving at Lambton statioiuafc 5.30. In the case of the Otago batta« lion, stationed at i Clyde-quay, the ■ men entrain and detrain at Te Aro station, occasioning a ten minutes' difference in the time of departure and return. MOUNTED RIFLES BRIGADE. . The Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago regiments T>f the Mounted Rifles Brigade, which are encamped at Trentham, Ljall Bay, and Seatoun, wijl be exercised as under during the remaindar of the week : — Mounted Work.— Close order drill, troop and squadron formation, yeomanry and mounted rifles training. Extended formations only in so far as is necessary for the following practices : Dismounting to take up a fire position from any forma* tioit whatever to the front, t either flank or rear. March practice, in which attention will be paid to intervals and dressing. Dismounted Work.— Musketry : Every, available target placed at the disposal of officers commanding. Mounted units will be in constant use, and all other work will be arranged to give effect to this order. Individual instruction is for the next few days to bo practised.' Fire discipline and control to be rele» gated entirely to such practice as may, be combined with skirmishing, selection of fins positions, use of cover, etc. Squadron or troop dismounted m action. One hour a, day t to be devoted to squad drill, marching' on foot, rifle exercises, and saluting. All marching to and from range will be included in this. Teh minutes' steady doubling to be done by, all ranks after turn-out in the mornings. NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAMME. The infantry battalions will be GXeJv cised next week as under : Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (sth ? 7th, and 9th October), on company training areas under brigade arrangements. Tuesday > (6th October), two infantry battalion* at Lyall Bay. Thursday (Bth October), two infantry battalions at Karori, On Saturday (10th October) the whold of the troops of the Expeditionary Forca in Wellington (loss the battalion carry* ing out musketry practice at Trentham) will be concentrated at Lower Hutt or Petone. AH units of the Mounted Rifles Brigade and the Otago Mounted Riflei Regiment next week will carry ou& training under the orders of the byigadutf of the Slounted Rifles Brigade and office* commanding respectively. On Wednesday (7th October) the mounted rifles encamped at Trentham will carry out a tactical exercise). On Tuesday (6th October) and Thursday (Bth October) the mounted men encamped at cither Lyall Bay, Miramar, or Seatoun are nob to be exercised on ground south of a line drawn from Miramar Wharf to Worsoi Bay. The Field Artillery Brigade will be exercised daily next week up till Friday, dnder the orders of the Officer Commanding Feild Artillery Brigade. All other Divisional Units, Engineers, Mounted Field Ambudance, etc., will be exercised daily under the order of their Officers Commanding.
