MAGISTRATE'S COURT
♦ Thirteen inebriates came before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., at tho Magistrate's Court to-day, and were disposed of in ten -minutes. Mary Johnston, with four previous convictions, was fined £2, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment, and Albert White was fined 10s. The remainder were all iirst offenders, and they were convicted and discharged. At yesterday's sitting of the Court Thomas Reginald M'Laughlin defended' an aqtion in which he was prosecuted by the City Council for doing plumbing work without obtaining written permission. Ho was represented by Mr. Meredith. A conviction was entered, and a fine of 5s with costs imposed. Constance Dowling was convicted of keeping an unregistered dog, and ordered to pay costs (7»). "This man is not worthy of any consideration," said Mr. 0. W. Jackson of Charles Alexander Thomas, charged with disobeying a maintenance order in reepecfc of his wife. He was ordered to pay arrears (£3) forthwith, or undergo a sentence of seven days in the Westport Gaol.
