"TO SQUASH ENGLAND TO PIECES"
GERMANY'S DESIRE. WORKING NIGHT~AND DAY WITH T.HAT OBJECT. LONDON, 24th September. A prominent American who lived for many years in Berlin, on being interviewed in London, said the, Germans were working night and day at Kiel and Wilhelmahaven altering merchantmen into transports. They were also working unceasingly in manufacturing Zeppelins. They expect to squash Englaaid to pieces. It is believed in Berlin that the war will endure for several years, but i\vt population knows litth of its progress. The British are hated with an intensity hard to describe. It was never supposed that England .would be a fact oi in the fight.
