IN BELGIUM

STORMS MAKE THE ROADS DIFFICULT BELGIANS PREPARING A "WELCOME." LONDON, 22nd September. Mr. Martin. Donohoe, war correspondent of the Daily Chronicle, telegraphing from Courtrai, in Belgium, says storms have made the roads difficult for transport. The flat country is a quagmire, and the new heavy guns brought up by the Germans against Termonde have stuck in the mud. The Germans are inadequately sheltered, and are suffering from exposure. Uhlan cyclists are active in South-west Belgium, and are raiding the main roads and sniping" at travellers. Belgian patrols are hunting down these marauders and the German fugitive* from the fighting line north of France. The Belgians are preparing a warm reception for the German right if it is driven back west of Charleroi. The Germans have mined various roade leading to Brussels, and have taken other precautions against a forced retreat.
