Mr. Justice Stringer, who arrived from the South yesterday, has left for Auckland. Mr. W. G. Williams, of the Universal Film Supply Company, Wellington, has returned from Australia. Mr. A. Vamey. general secretary of the Wellington V.M.C.A., is suffering from influenza and unable to attend at his office. / Mr. H. E. Nicholls. secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board, is at present confined to his house by a severe attack of influenza, but is making a recovery. Dr. Harold Pettit (son of Mr. Thomas Pettit, of Nelson) has joined tho British Army tas a medical officer of the 3rd Battalion of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Regiment. Mr. EWk Hurley, who hae been appointed photographer of the Shackleton Expedition, is to leave for Monte Video at once in order to join the Endurance at Buenos Aires. Messrs. F. T. Moore, J. A. May, H. Parker, W. Angel), R. Bould, VV. C. Skinner, and 0. Jerusalem have been re-elected to form the Johnsonville Town. Board for the ensuing year. No other nominations were received. By the cable steamer Iris there were brought to Auckland Messrs. John Milward, the manager in the Pacific for the Cable Board, who joined the steamer at Vancouver, and R. 0. Phippard, M. Bourke, and J. Leith, who were transferred from Norfolk Island. The Rev. Dr. Charles Sheldon, the American author and lecturer, who has come to the Dominion to assist the New Zealand Alliance in its no-license campaign this year, will return from the South next Wednesday, and remain in Wellington for a few days. Mi. Philip Snowden, British M.P., and Mrs. Snow, den, who are also to assist in the campaign in New Zealand, will reach Auckland to-morrowi Opportunity was taken to-day by the members of Nos. 30 and 35 Companies, Wellington Technical College Cadets, to present Lieutenant L. W. Hugo, who is leaving with the Expeditionary Force as lieutenant in No. 17 (Ruahine) Company, with a silver wristlet watch. The presentation was made by the present senior officer of the Technical College Cadets, Colour-Sergeant C. Crane. All ■the commissioned officers of this Cadet company are serving with the Forces.
