LYALL BAY SURF CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The fourth annual report of the Lyall Bay Surf and Life-Saving Club has just be circulated. It states that last sea« son was the most successful in the history of the club, and members are to be congratulated in maintaining the attendance at the bay. Tho season was free from any fatalities. Mention is made of the good work of several of the club members who were instrumental in rescuing two men from a dangerous position on, the locks on tho right-hand side of the bay. These two swimmers were unable to reach shore owing to the very heavy surf and a southerly wind, and our members (Messrs. Cairns, Neilson, Moffit, O'Flaherty, and R. H. Reid) effected a rescue, under most trying conditions. There was an appreciable increase in the number of active members, and the membership has been well maintained although the annual subscription has been raised from 2s 6d to ss. The clnb's finances, it is regretted, are not in a very strong position, owing to 6ome_ extremely heavy non-recurring expenditure, but tho club's assets are in a very sound condition. The outgoing committee expect that tho club's financial position will bo very much improved at tho end of the coming season. Thanks are extended to Sir Robert Stout, Mr. W. H. D. Bell, M.P., and to Mr. A. Levy and others, for practical interest in the work of the club.
